Abunzi Committees in Rwanda

Abunzi (meaning "those who reconcile") are elected community mediators who handle disputes as a mandatory first step before court access for certain matters.

Legal Basis

Organic Law N° 02/2010 establishes Abunzi committees, making them a core part of Rwanda's justice system.

Structure

Cell-Level Abunzi:

12 elected members (30% women minimum)
